The names of the characters in the film are fictional, but the stories they tell are based on true tales of courage. In the storyline, college students set out to solve the mystery of the disappearance of a woman, Zelda. Her father was a lithhouse keeper who perished during an icy November storm in a courageous rescue attempt. The mystery of Zelda's disappearance has been a cold case for ten years. Using scientific methods, the college students divide into teams and try to uncover the truth of what really happened to Zelda. In the process they encounter Great Lakes pirates who are determined to find and steal Zelda's secret ledger, a key to determine if there is treasure to be found or not. The film was shot on location in Indiana and on Lakes Michigan, Huron and Superior. The motion picture highlights many lighthouses, ships and shipwrecks including the Arthur M. Anderson.
